   Driving these days is stressful enough especially on our over congested roads, without the bother of the mobile ringing! - Already your concentration has been interrupted before you automatically reach for the handset. Well don't!
As professional drivers will know, the phone usually rings at the most inopportune moment, reversing on to a loading bay etc. And how many times has it been just to see, if you're there yet.
From the 1st December 2003, it has been a specific offence to use a hand-held phone, or similar device, when driving. The penalty is a £30 fixed penalty or up to £1,000 on conviction in court (£2,500 for drivers of goods vehicles, buses or coaches). Provided that a phone can be operated without holding it, then hands-free equipment is not prohibited by the new regulation.
However, hands-free phones are also distracting and you still risk prosecution for failing to have proper control of a vehicle under Regulation 104 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 if you use a hands-free phone when driving. If there is an incident, the use of any phone or similar device might justify charges of careless or dangerous driving.
Luckily for the Volvo truck driver there is an alternative to the ordinary handset such as the 'Integrated Hand-free' device. The controls are on the steering wheel and dashboard, with two speakers and the flexible mouthpiece in the actual headrest. Able
to accommodate all service providers there should be no trouble connecting to your current service provider. Designed for comfort and safety it's ideal for those operators who want a direct mobile replacement in the truck.
Volvo's Dynafleet system is much more sophisticated and offers three levels of communication. From the basic 'Logger Tool' to using the third level 'Information Tool' will give traffic planners all the answers they require. With messages and instructions stored ready for when you are parked safely therefore not putting you or your truck in danger of an accident and risk of a fine!
